Non-Ski Activities in Tarentaise Valley
Last minute ski holidays aren’t just about skiing! Consider Tarentaise Valley, where you can hike, sled or even fly to explore the area.
There’s nothing quite like a spontaneous getaway at a last minute ski holiday. Whether you’re trying to take advantage of the last snow of the year, or hit the slopes at the height of the season, there’s winter fun to be had – often for unbelievably good prices!
In France’s Tarentaise Valley, there really is something for everyone on this type of break, even if not everyone in the group wants to ski. Last minute ski vacations can be great for families, even if the younger kids are together for a trip, as there are many other activities available besides skiing or snow boarding. This area includes access to the Three Valleys, Paradiski, La Plagne, Les Arcs, and Espace Killy – all of which have their own taste – and if you want some activity outside of the realm of skiing, this is the place to go!
Walking and hiking
For those who book a last minute ski holiday but don’t want to spend all their time skiing, there are some absolutely fantastic walking and hiking trails in the Tarentaise Valley. Near Espace Killy, the walking p-trails are a great way to get up close to local nature and wildlife, while the area around La Plagne is great for snowshoeing. Specially designed snowshoes help make it easier to walk through deep snow by keeping your feet from sinking. In heavier snow, such walking excursions aren’t about getting the farthest distance, they’re more about getting out into nature and soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells of a winter wonderland. But if you like the idea of ??taking longer walks to explore the landscape more fully, get yourself some great snowshoes and hire an experienced guide. With a guide, you can get off the beaten track and see things you won’t be able to visit on the regular pistes around the village resorts.
Tobogganing, sledding, and more
If you’ve been spending most of your last-minute ski holiday skiing or snowboarding and you want to relax on something less energetic, even the most seasoned winter sportsman can have fun out of a simpler chase!
At Paradiski, you can take advantage of a number of non-ski outdoor activities including sledding and tobogganing – and the kids will absolutely love you for it. Tobogganing is guaranteed to make you smile at the end of the day over the broad run here. This is also a great activity if you have a younger family member who hasn’t quite gotten up to the skiing challenges.
If you like the idea of ??being out outdoors in the snow, but not on skis, book a sledding trip! You can spend a day learning how to ride an amazing team of dogs, or you can have your own private driver / guide, who will take you out and introduce you to this amazing activity while exploring the countryside. This is a fantastic activity for the whole family.
But if that’s an adventure you’re looking for, why not try paragliding over the slopes? You can take a day and learn the basics at a local paragliding school, or you can do two-person paragliding with an experienced guide and see the slopes from a bird’s eye view without having to do any work – there’s really nothing quite like it.
Winter sports aren’t all about skiing and snowboarding – there are so many other things to discover.
